Laser IPL Permanent Hair Reduction

Laser Permanent Hair Reduction

Laser assisted hair removal has been around since the early 1990's and although there are many different systems that can be used to treat the removal of unwanted hair growth the overall results using lasers are comparable to some extent. Lasers and IPLs (Intense Pulsed Light) have also been proven as a seemingly permanent way to remove unwanted hair. The results are by far superior to more conventional methods such as waxing, electrolysis and plucking.

The desire to be hairfree and carefree is extremely common, whether it is for pubic hair removal, facial hair removal (predominantely the upper lip and chin) or anywhere else can be achieved without damaging the skin. More than one treatment is required as the hair can only be permanently removed when it is in the anagen phase (hair growing phase). You should be able to notice a considerable difference after 2-3 treatments. When you are booking in to a laser clinic or centre you should enquire if you can get a discount if you book and pay for more than one treatment.

IPL and Laser hair removal treatments also assist with the removal of ingrowing hairs and also reduces and eliminates shaving rashes.

What happens during a laser hair removal session?

Before you undergo a course of laser or IPL hair removal you should be invited to attend a free consulation where your skin should also be tested for your compatabilty to laser or IPL treatments. You should use this consultation to ask any questions you may have about the treatment procedure. When you have your test patch you will see and feel how the treatment works. An IPL system feels as though an elastic band is being flicked upon your skin. It isn't painful but it is a strange sensation. Often a layer of cooling gel is placed on the area to be treated and the handpiece of the laser or IPL will be guided over. Short flashes of light emit the energy in to the skin, it is this light that effectively targets the hair follicle and kills it as well as the living cells that surround it meaning that the hair follicle is unable to produce new hair growth.

The treatment doesn't take very long and there is no downtime so you can return to normal activites straight after. There may be some reddening of the skin which it temporary but this will soon fade.

You should be invited to commence treatment about 48 hours after the test patch has been carried out.

How will I know that the laser/IPL hair removal treatment has worked?

The hair that has been treated and that was in the anagen phase will grow out through the hair shaft, this can take a couple of weeks. No new hair growth will be produced from those hair follicles. After a few treatments you will notice bald patches where the hair can no longer grow. Hair removal treatments should take place about 4-6 weeks apart in the beginning, this time can be extended after about 3 treatments.

For successful permanent hair reduction an average of 6 treatments is required. But just think, imagine never having to shave, wax or do any other forms of hair removal again! Hair free, carefree with just smooth skin.
