Frequently Asked Questions about BOTOX™ 1) What is BOTOX™? BOTOX™ is a product well known for being used in cosmetic procedures such as improving the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles – more commonly for the frown lines, crow’s feet and the forehead. It can also be used to enhance the contour of the jaw line as well as help treat excessive sweating. 2) What happens during a BOTOX™ treatment? BOTOX™ treatments should be carried out by a qualified medical practitioner in a professional environment. After you have had your initial BOTOX™ consultation your practitioner will use a tiny needle to inject BOTOX™ to the areas to be treated. It is over quite quickly and feels nothing more than tiny needle pricks. You will then be advised of any aftercare required such as not lying down for about 4 hours after treatment. 3) Are there any side effect to BOTOX™? As BOTOX™ is a temporary treatment any side effect you may have should only last a maximum of 6 months. The actual amount of BOTOX™ that will be injected is minimal so the danger is very low. BOTOX™ has been used in the cosmetic industry for a number of years now and has been well tested. We are referring to the product BOTOX™ which is manufactured by Allergan. We do not use any other product so cannot comment on any other brand of muscle relaxing products. You may notice some slight bruising after having BOTOX™ treatment, but this will soon disappear. You may also notice a slight headache following treatment, this should also subside quite quickly. If you have any concerns following treatment then you should contact your practitioner. 4) What ages can BOTOX™ be used for? BOTOX™ is most effective for people who are between 18-65 5) How does BOTOX™ work? BOTOX™ literally keeps the muscles that cause frown lines from contracting. This makes the skin look smoother and softens the facial expressions. The muscles that would normally contract will no longer receive the signals from the brain to do so. 6) How long do BOTOX™ injections last? Each person is different but on average a single treatment of BOTOX™ should last about 3 months and in some cases even longer. As the effect wears off you will notice this and then make your next appointment. 7) How long does a BOTOX™ procedure take? The total time for a treatment of BOTOX™ is about 10 minutes and as there is no down time or recover time you will be able to resume normal activities straight away. Apart from lying or bending down. BOTOX™ is becoming popular due to the fact that people won’t notice that you ‘have had anything done’, and it can be done during a break from your normal daily routine.
